What Is Rhodiola?

Rhodiola is a powerful "adaptogen", an agent that protects the body from breakdown due to chronic stress.

Also known as golden root, arctic root or roseroot, Rhodiola has been used for centuries in traditional Russian and Scandinavian medicine to increase physical endurance, work productivity, longevity, resistance to high altitude sickness, and to treat fatigue, depression, anemia, impotence, infertility, gastrointestinal complaints, and nervous system disorders.

Today in Russia, Rhodiola is used as a tonic and remedy for fatigue, poor attention span, and decreased memory; it is also believed to make workers more productive.

What sets Rhodiola rosea apart from other species of Rhodiola are three cinnamyl alchohol-vicianosides identified as rosavin, rosin and rosarin – which may give this Siberian root its potent punch! Its many uses include:

Stress Buster: Users say that when it comes to physical and mental stress, the many symptoms seem less pronounced.

Sleep Inducement: Some people report that taking Rhodiola before bed helps calm the mind, for a more restful sleep.
Athletic Improvement: It seems that Rhodiola is used by athletes and physically active individuals to enhance sleep, increase energy and reduce post-workout burn.
Mood Enhancement: Many individuals taking Rhodiola say that they experience an uplifting feeling that carries throughout the day.
Immunity Booster: Since stress is a leading cause of fatigue and lowered immune function, some people say that the stress-busting Rhodiola helps improve their natural defenses.

On top of all its healthy lifestyle enhancement, Rhodiola is also newly being researched as a potential anti-cancer ingredient. And now it's available in a convenient and potent extract for you to try!

Any one have any thing good or bad to say about using Rhodiola AKA artic root, golden root and rose root to treat PCOS symptoms?

  2. Anonymous says:

PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is very common in women who are estrogen-dominant and/or have an overproduction of adrenalin. It is also a well-known fact that hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils can upset the balance of healthy/unhealthy fatty acids ratio, creating therefore the foundation for detrimental consequences linked to the synthesis of several gonadal or sex hormones in women.

Because Rhodiola is a powerful antiadrenergic (inhibit secretion of adrenalin), it is used as a hormone regulator in PCOS, though further research is necessary at the moment.

Wherever you may be in your life’s journey, three guidelines will profoundly enhance ongoing health and hormonal harmony:

The liver plays a major role in the proper metabolizing of hormones, especially estrogen. Liver-loving foods include broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, beets, garlic, lemons, artichokes and asparagus. Liver-loving herbs include milk thistle, dandelion root and turmeric.

The adrenals influence hormonal balance, immune health, digestion, blood sugar balance, blood pressure, inflammation control and mineral balance. Your adrenals are nourished by vitamin C, vitamin B5 (best taken in a B-complex formula), cod liver oil–though I prefer Flaxseed oil–and magnesium. The adaptagenic herbs, such as ashwaganda (Withania somnifera), Rhodiola rosea and maca root (Lepidium meyenii), provide excellent adrenal support.

A strong digestive system ensures that your body will readily absorb your food. Digestive-strengthening foods include yogurt, kefir, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, sauerkraut and miso. Digestive enzymes are also helpful.

    Good luck! :)

Hi, does anyone know where I can get the swedish version of Rhodiola Rosea in the UK or someone who ships it very cheap and quickly? It is much better than any other type of Rhodiola as it contains SHR-5. Be very grateful if anyone can help me out. Thank you.

    Hi and greetings from Sweden!
In Swedish this is called Rosenrot and I have checked various websites here to see if they send to the UK because it might be good if you could find a Swedish supplier. The price from Sweden plus the price of postage might be cheaper than UK prices.

I did find the following website for a company based in Yorkshire that sells Rosenrot/Rhodiola extract for £16.99 (60 tablets) or £27.95 for 150 tablets. http://www.worldwideshoppingmall.co.uk/b…

I'll keep looking and update this answer if I find anything else.

Update: I have found a Swedish website that sends to the UK. The prices seem OK and I clicked on the Union Jack to get the website in English. You just key in the currency you want to pay in etc etc.
